These five resort cities are located near the capital of Thailand – within just 3 hours drive from the city – making it possible for you to enjoy both the cosmopolitan life and the beach holiday.
1. Pattaya City
Located in Chonburi Province about 2 hours drive from Bangkok, Pattaya is considered to be the most popular and nearest beach to the capital. Despite its notorious reputation for being a red light district of Thailand, the city offers a beach with all public facilities from public toilets, promenade and public park.
Traveling to Pattaya is a piece of cake for any travelers because there is a public air-conditioned bus operated between the two cities daily. In fact, there are also numerous van services operate from many venues in Bangkok, but we would not recommend you to take this mean of transport as it is not as safe as the public bus – it might be slower but safer. You can find more details about the bus service and the rate here.
For the accommodation, there are thousands of choices available in the city ranging from the guesthouse types to the five-star hotels. All facilities are well-developed; you can choose to enjoy all kinds of cuisines, relax at the spa, watch the famous transvestite shows or roam the red light district.Hotels in Pattaya
2. Cha-Am Beach
This quaint resort town is located 173 km away from Bangkok – not too far for Bangkokians or expats to take a quick weekend trip to the beach. Cha-Am is a family-friendly destination due to its proximity to the capital and the well-equipped facilities.
The beach of Cha-Am is well-known among the locals. You will find many Thai families having a picnic on the beach and swimming in the sea. Although Cha-Am is not a nightlife spot like Pattaya, the city still has a lot to offer. There are plenty of hotels and guesthouses with friendly rates available.
The most convenient way to get there, if you don’t drive, is to take a van service as it will park right in front of the Cha-Am Beach. While the bus service will just drop you off on the main road and you have to take other kinds of transportation to connect to the beach. Although the van is the most convenient way, it might not be the safest way to travel there. If you travel in a group, you should consider hiring a taxi which the rate should be around 2,500 to 3,000 THB.Hotels in Cha-Am
3. Koh Samet
Koh Samet is one of the nearest islands from Bangkok and it offers pristine beaches within 2.5 hours drive from the capital of Thailand. Part of Rayong Province in the East of Thailand, Koh Samet has been a famous getaway destination of Thai people. This small paradise boasts several white sand beaches, but one of the most popular beaches is always Hat Sai Kaew where it is packed with accommodation, facilities and travelers. You will not believe how beautiful Koh Samet’s beaches can be, considering it is just a short drive from Bangkok.
Regardless of its size, this island is packed with a huge number of accommodations and entertainment. When compared the rates of those amenities to other resort cities around Bangkok, Koh Samet seems to be the most expensive one.
In short, this pristine island can offer both the natural scene of azure ocean and nightlife entertainment where the beach party is possible every week. To travel there, you can use a bus or a van service which again we still recommend the first one for your own safety. Once you arrive at Rayong you have to take a ferry boat to connect to the island which will take around 30 minutes to reach Koh Samet.Hotels in Koh Samet
