Update on political situation in Thailand

Currently there are political demonstrations across Thailand, they are:  anti-government and pro-government demonstration.  However, so far there is no violence and most of protesting areas are not in tourist location.

The anti-government protesters are currently staging their camp around Rajadamnern Road and the pro-government protesters set their camp at Rajamangala Stadium on Ramkamjeang Road.

There are three districts that the Thai Cabinet has approved the use of the Internal Security Act to ensure order in Bangkok, they are: Dusit; Phra Nakhon and Pom Prap Sattru Phai – these areas are the surrounding location of the Government House and Parliament. This Internal Security Act is effective up until 30 November 2013.

According to the Tourism Authority of Thailand, 25 November, all tourist attractions are open and operating as per normal. However, TAT suggested that tourists should check their travel route and traffic as well as avoid areas where crowds may gather for their convenience and safety.

TAT also confirmed that all businesses and tourist attractions and activities continue as per normal. Two airports of Thailand – Suvarnabhumi Airport and Don Mueang Airport are still operating as normal. However, it is advised all air travellers of possible heavy road traffic and a lack of taxis resulting from the protests in Bangkok. Commuters are advised to use public transport such as BTS SkyTrain, Airport Link, public buses and vans, and limousine services.
