Tool: Thai to Christian year converter

Since AD 1888, under the reign of King Rama V, Thailand has adopted the Thai Solar Calendar, which has some differences with the common calendar, also known as Gregorian Calendar. Years are counted according to the Buddhist Era,  that is 543 years greater than the Gregorian calendar used in western countries.

Converting between them is as easy as adding or extracting 543 years, but why should you bother doing so, when you can have a machine do it for you? Just start typing on the box next to this text the Thai year to obtain the Gregorian one, and vice versa.

There’s an app for that

We have created a simple and lightweight Android application that lets you calculate and convert between Thai and Western years easily from your mobile device. You can find it in Google Play, it is free.

To convert Thai years into Western year, type the number in the Thai box and push Convert. To do the opposite, type the number on the Western year box.

The year starts on January

Remember that the year changes on 1st January, just like in Western countries. Don’t be confused by the fact that Thai New Year, also called Songkran, happens on 13-14-15 April.

Too lazy to calculate or the converter is not working properly? Don’t worry, here you have a table with year conversions from 2000 to 2020.
